What is the Greaten AP500 Pro?
The AP500 Pro is an electronic wind controller by Greaten Music. It connects via USB-C or Bluetooth and works as a MIDI controller with any compatible software — including VG Wind Ensemble. In this video it’s used without internal sounds, purely as a performance controller.
A few things worth mentioning: the touch-sensitive keys are responsive, the mouthpiece has a built-in bite sensor that sends a MIDI signal — either CC1 or pitch bend — which I mapped to vibrato in VG Wind Ensemble. The glide bar turned out useful for triggering effects like the harmonizer. The pitch bend required no additional setup and responded precisely to my movements, changing the pitch exactly as intended.
The instrument offers several fingering systems — saxophone, flute, oboe, trumpet and more. I use the trumpet fingering, which makes the transition easier for trumpet players.
What is VG Wind Ensemble?
VG Wind Ensemble is a virtual instrument platform with 71 wind instrument sounds, designed specifically for wind controllers, breath controllers, and MIDI keyboards. It works as VST, AU, and standalone on Windows and macOS.
